Moyra Davey is an internationally recognized Canadian visual artist who has made a significant contribution to contemporary photography. Over the past three decades, Davey has built an extraordinary and increasingly influential body of work composed of photographs, writings, and video.

Davey’s photographs of familiar objects – coins, kitchen shelves, stacks of books – document the traces of day-to-day life and encourage viewers to contemplate small details that are often overlooked.

Davey’s work has been exhibited extensively in both group and solo exhibitions, including most recently  Reconstructions, Recent Photographs and Video from the Met Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.  Important exemplars of Davey’s works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Tate Modern, London; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.

Davey currently lives in and works in New York City and is represented by Murray Guy gallery in Chelsea, New York and Greengrassi in London, England.

The jury members stated that, “Moyra Davey’s thoughtful, poetic practice with its attention to scale and tracing analogue time is an important meditation on the relationship between photography and the everyday.  More than a depiction, she implicates the audience in her work.”
